New Partnerships will Strengthen Position in Japan
Tokyo, Japan – July, 2 2014. World leader in folding bikes DAHON announced today the addition of two further distribution partners in the lucrative Japanese market.
At the 2014 DAHON Japan Distributor Conference held in Tokyo, founder and CEO Dr David Hon and members of DAHON’s product and sales team welcomed 50 representatives and dealers from established retailers Takeda and Sinanen. Founded in 1938, Takeda is located in Chiba near Tokyo and boasts annual sales over $43M US Dollars. With an equally long history, Sinanen has been in business since 1927 and is based in Minato-Ku and brings in over $31M US Dollars in annual sales.
The two companies are set to take on distribution of DAHON’s popular folding bikes via Chain Bicycle Dealers who operates a chain of more than ten stores throughout the region. DAHON retains long-standing partner Akibo to handle distribution via Independent Bicycle Dealers, ensuring that all corners of the market are covered in terms of sales and service. Abundant in urban landscapes and with a certain cult status for small-wheeled bicycles, the Japanese market has always been prime territory for folding bikes.
DAHON is position to grow with Japan’s economy while providing innovative product to meet the growing demand for folding bikes. At the conference, Product Director, Greg Blake presented Takeda and Sinanen exclusives on current technologies while explaining DAHON’s sales policy and strategies.
DAHON’s 2015 product line offers upgraded classics models as well as brand new folders.
- The award winning EEZZ has been updated to a custom 3-speed drivetrain. Using a Shimano Tiagra derailleur, DAHON developed 9x11x13 cassette hub and a custom 3 speed Microshift twist shifter with indicator.
- The Qix features a vertical-folding alloy frame with Shimano 8 speed X-5 gearing, linear pull brakes, full wrap fenders, roller rear carrier, and anodized detailing. Taking cues from both the Jifo and EEZZ 16” bikes, the Qix is a 20” version with a large seating position and riding range. Vertical folding technology allows the Qix to roll directly into a folded position with the minimum of effort and time.
- For the discerning roadie DAHON presents the Mu EX. Super premium performance for the road, with the addition of a carbon fiber fork and 20″ double walled rims, and weighing in at just 9.3 kilos, this bike flies.
DAHON continues to innovate and provide product to cyclist who rely on performance, utility and convenience. The brand shows no signs of slowing and will open new offices and a new factory in Schenzhen – SongAn district. Preparations by KGI Securities are also well under way for DAHON to go public and float on the Taiwanese stock exchange.
